TCCA Cold Storage & Distribution Center Project
| The fall of 1998 saw Tillamook County Creamery Association (TCCA) break ground
on the first phase of a 10-year master plan to expand their Tillamook, Oregon
facility to accommodate continued growth of Tillamook cheeses, ice cream and
butter products. Covert Engineers, in conjunction with TCCA’s staff, developed the multi-phase plan that will meet the planned growth.
CEI responsibilities included Project Developers, Project Management,
Refrigeration, Process and Material Handling.

The first phase construction features a high rise, automated storage retrieval
system (ASRS) that provides 15,000 pallet spaces in the new cold storage and distribution center.
The high rise automated warehouse not only provides increased efficiency, but also doubled the storage capabilities for cheese and ice cream products.
The design team redesigned and reorganized areas within the existing structure to accommodate a centrally located new maintenance shop with parts storage and
a dry supply warehouse.
Additional areas included in this phase:
Tillamook Cheese operates 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. Of the many challenges encountered in adding to and upgrading an operating plant, was the
“switchover” and tie-in of a new boiler plant and power supply/electrical distribution system. The design team, through precise planning and
coordination with contractors, Tillamook PUD and plant employees, completed the “switchover” in eight hours, on schedule.
The ASRS was completed within budget placed in operation in April, 2000 as scheduled.
