Boardman Foods Onion Processing Plant Project
| In 1992, Westar Foods (Boardman Foods)
contracted with Covert Engineering to provide process engineering
and Project Management Support for a new onion processing plant located
along the Columbia River at the Port of Morrow Industrial Park in
Boardman, Oregon.

A processing facility capable of producing IQF (Individual
Quick Freeze) onion products.
Areas of the facility included:
- Raw receiving
- Processing
- Packaging
- Freezing
- Storage capabilities

Storage designed for frozen finished product in an on-site cold storage.

Building aspects of the facility included:
- Employee welfare
- Production office
- Quality assurance rooms capable of supporting production requirements

The process water pre-treatment was designed to satisfy the Port of Morrow
wastewater discharge requirements.

Refrigeration design included a belt freezer and cold storage incorporating an energy efficient design for Umatilla Electric and Bonneville Power Administration.

Construction on the plant was completed December 1992.
|
In 2001, CEI designed and coordinated installation of a new steam service
provided by the nearby PGE co-generation plant.
