Aviko USA, Potato Processing Plant Project
| The Aviko project is a $46 million Potato Processing Plant located on a 146-acre site. The plant produces french fries, hash browns and other potato products for a major fast food corporation. The 176,000-square foot plant is capable of processing 30,000 pounds of potatoes per hour. Key features include optical sortation, process and packaging operations. |

CEI, process and refrigeration designers, incorporated a state-of-the-art low temperature, ammonia refrigeration system in the 46,000-square foot cold storage area. Temperatures reach -10°F. Underfloor piping carrying heated glycol is used to prevent freezing of soil and foundation systems underlying the refrigeration areas.

Operating 24 hours a day, the plant is capable of annually producing 215 million pounds of frozen French fries and other potato products.
A key approach was designing the project in phases. Given the climate in North Dakota, constructing the plant before winter posed a major challenge. By designing in phases, construction of the building shell could be achieved prior to the winter months. |
